California is known for its natural beauty. Whether you love vast open coastlines or magnificent mountains, there is every reason to visit the Golden State. With so many attractions to explore and activities to enjoy, you can never witness them all in a single visit.

While planning a vacation in California, key attractions shouldn’t be the only factors on your mind. Whether you are visiting alone or with family or friends, safety should be a concern. There is as much beauty in California’s smaller towns as in its larger cities. Besides, smaller towns tend to be relatively safer.

Here is a list of the three best small towns in California that offer many attractions and have the lowest crime rates.

1. Rancho Santa Margarita

Rancho Santa Margarita, one of the youngest cities in Orange County draws visitors to the Ancient Peaks Winery, The Barn Antiques & Unique, Rinconda Mine, and Soaring Hawk Vineyards. It has recently been recognized as one of the safest cities in the state. It has a lower crime rate than 92% of cities and towns in California.

2. Danville

People visit Danville for its Blackhawk Museum, the 19th-century Old St. Raymond’s Church, Dublin Heritage Park, and Bankhead Theater. Located in Contra Costa County, Danville has retained the top rank for low crime rate in the state for five consecutive years. Its crime rate fell from 6.6 per 1,000 in 2021 to 5.3 in 2022.

3. Yorba Linda

This Orange County suburban city is the birthplace of the former U.S. president, Richard Nixon. Some of its main attractions include the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, Jessamyn West Park, Box Canyon Park, and Black Gold Golf Club. The small city has a crime rate of 889 per 100,000. The violent crime rate is just 47 per 100,000.

There is more than enough for you to explore in these small California towns without the crime rate that is prevalent in the state’s big cities. All these towns offer historical, architectural, and natural attractions for all members of the family.
