What Makes London So Special

London is the capital of the United Kingdom and England, and the largest city in the U.K. and even in the European Union. The history of the city goes back to over 2,000 years when it was founded by the Romans. It is the most visited city on the planet today and has the largest city airport in terms of passenger traffic. A city so old and so popular is natural to offer some of the most famous attractions in the world.

The British Museum is world famous and it exhibits artifacts from prehistoric to current times from all over the world. The most notable items in its collection include the Parthenon sculptures, the Rosetta Stone and the Ancient Egyptian mummies. There is no entry-fee if there are no special exhibitions. The Tower of London is one of the most famous buildings in the world. It is more than 900 years old and during this time it has remained the royal palace, an execution place, a prison, an arsenal, a zoo and even a jewel house.

If you are visiting London, make sure that you are at Madame Tussauds, where you would see some of the most famous personalities in the world. You can be anywhere in London, but you cannot miss the London Eye, the highest observation wheel in the world. It has 32 capsules that can hold 25 people. Make sure to get aboard with your family and get a splendid view of the city.

Food

London’s food is traditional and delicious with the pie and the mash being the most popular offerings. Traditionally, local eels were used as the fillings for the pie, but today you can enjoy minced beef fillings. London, being the largest city in Europe boasts tens of thousands of restaurants. You can have your breakfast at the Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea or enjoy some French food at Petrus in Knightsbridge. For lunch, you can visit Goodman for its British food or Barrafina for its Mediterranean and Spanish food, while Rossella is popular for its Italian food. The Bull is a good place to enjoy some South American and Steakhouse cuisine.

London Heathrow Airport

London Heathrow Airport is the major international airport of London. It is 24 km from the centre of the city. You can use any of the 3 underground stations to reach the city. London offers a number of public transport systems to connect the entire city. There are public buses, coach services and the underground trains. You can take the frequent red buses or the underground Tube if you are on a budget.

London is one city that would always remain on the top of the list of the leading tourist destinations of the world. It is the 9th largest city on the planet, and the only city to have hosted the Olympics three times. There is no other city where as many languages are spoken. When visiting the city, make sure to check the wheelchair-accessible buses. This is the largest such bus network on the planet.
