The Isle of Man, also known as Mann, is located in the Irish Sea in the British Isles. This island has remained inhabited for over 8,500 years. Douglas is the capital of this beautiful island packed between the Ireland and the Great Britain islands. The Isle of Man has many attractions for visitors, including theme parks, zoos, country parks, and steam railways.

Isle of Man Attractions

The Onchan Pleasure Park is the perfect place for families to have a great day. Many activities are offered free of charge, while you can enjoy a picnic with the family. Leading attractions in the park include bumper boats, motorboats, crazy golf, putting, miniature golf, crown bowls, tennis, swing ball, and much more. The Groudle Glen Railway features a 2-foot gauge steam railway that is more than a century old. The line runs for around 1 km from Groudle Glen to Sea Lion Cove where you can get off to enter a small cafe, go for sea views or cliff-top walks.

If you want to explore all the interesting “ancient” railway systems on the island with your kids, then you wouldn't want to miss the 3-foot gauge steam railway. It runs for 24 km between Douglas and Port Erin. The journey of the train covers Port Soderick, Castletown, Level, Port St Mary, and several other smaller towns. It is one of the best ways for you to explore the amazing villages and towns across the southern part of Mann.

Things to Do in Isle of Man

Fishing is the major commercial activity on the Isle of Man, which naturally means the island’s cuisine is mainly based on fish and cereals. Make sure to taste the local and fresh Manx lobster, crab, and Queenies. Some of the other popular local foods include Manx lamb and cheese. The local cuisine has been inspired by the British and Scottish cuisine. However, you can still find French, Italian, Spanish, Indian, and Thai foods. In addition, the local cuisine is also highly dependent upon milk products. You can tell how popular a tourist destination this is from the number of sophisticated restaurants it boasts.

Restaurants

You can have your breakfast or brunch at 14 North in Douglas. They offer some amazing English food. Harbour Lights Cafe is also a good place to have your breakfast. Tanroagan Seafood Restaurant is a good place to enjoy some English cuisine and seafood. You can visit this restaurant in Douglas for lunch as well as dinner. The Velvet Lobster in Douglas can be an ideal place to enjoy British or continental food. You can also come here to enjoy tea.

Transportation

The Isle of Man has a civilian airport, the Ronaldsway Airport, which is located to the south of the island. It is well connected with the U.K. and Ireland. The airport is connected to the other cities by buses and taxis. The island has a good network of public transport. If you want to travel across the eastern side of the island, the Manx Electric Railway would be a good option. It runs between Douglas and Ramsey. You can reach the higher areas of the island using the Snaefell Mountain Railway. Taxis and rental cars offer you better alternatives for getting around faster and to the remotest areas.
